Castle Hall
A 4-story building with extensive lab facilities and
intensive air conditioning requirements located on
the museum grounds.  A heat recovery system
controls humidity in certain areas of the building, as
well as providing hot water to the necessary
plumbing fixtures.  Also included in the design are
"elephant trunk" vent tubes to solve the problem of
constant chemical use with can cause damages to
the interior of the building.  Close coordination was
required for a unique building designed with
aesthetics as a primary concern.
With over 16,000 sq. ft. of interactive exhibits, the
Science Learning Center provides a hands-on learning
experience about the Hawaiian Islands, volcanoes, and
oceans.  A unique feature within the center is a walk-in
volcano that will periodically erupt.  Notkin Hawaii
provided design services including air conditioning,
plumbing and fire protection systems for this Learning
Center.
